Each tattoo begins with a gesture that has its origin in the tradition of hand‑block printing from Jaipur. I sit and practise with the wooden blocks in a small street of the Pink City. I haven’t carved every block myself, but I do carve some of them, because I enjoy creating with my hands, I’m curious, and I want to be part of everything I consider part of my work.

Block printing in Rajasthan is an ancient craft; the region has been a centre of hand‑block printing for several centuries. Traditional blockmakers carve wooden blocks by hand, with motifs inspired by nature, geometry, or local folklore, and then use them to print long lengths of fabric, usually saris, through repetitive, skilled stamping.

In my work, I have adapted the original blocks: I have reduced them to smaller symbols instead of using them as repeating patterns, thus changing their function and transforming the scale of each block.
